Double Awards Won at China Outstanding Educators and Education Award Ceremony
On 12th December, China Outstanding Educators and Education Award Ceremony welcomed guests from all over the country to gather in Diaoyutai State Guesthouse, the venue where President Xi JinPing greets diplomatic guests on state visits. The ceremony was considered the education award of year organized by China Internet News Centre to honour professionals that have made great contribution in the education industry across levels, specialty and regions. Not only did Manchester Business School win Most Innovative MBA Programme award, but also Centre Director Ms. Sherry Fu personally was recognized at this grand annual award ceremony.

Manchester Business School Wins Most Influential MBA Award 2016
On 11th December 2016, Manchester Business School was invited to attend the 2016 Tencent China Business School development Forum, one of the most influential MBA event of the year. Joining the forum were the most respected Business Schools in the country. Manchester Business School was one of the few International Schools that have been invited. Built on the honor of winning “2015 Most Innovative MBA” award, the School was voted for “2016 Most Influential MBA”. China Centre Director Ms. Sherry Fu, Sophia Guo and Emmy Wang from the recruiting team received this award on behalf of the School.

China Centre wins Linkedin Award - Best Marketing Effect 2016
On 25th of November 2016, China Centre received Linkedin's Best Marketing Effect 2016 award at its annual Conference for China. “Since we opened our door as Manchester Business School China Centre in 2008, we have been communicating Manchester values and delivering Manchester qualities to Chinese working professionals. We have noticed and reacted to the changes in how we communicate to our students, alumni and prospective students in recent years. I would like to congratulate our China team in doing a wonderful job!” Said China Centre Director Sherry Fu at the annual conference.

Manchester Business School receives “Most Influential MBA Brand in China 2016”
On 23rd November 2016, Manchester Business School received “Most Influential MBA Brand in China” award from Sina Education China. This being the fourth consecutive year that the school receives this award, it is a symbol of recognition for the Manchester brand and the work that has been put into promoting and maintaining it. The University of Manchester China Centre Director Ms. Sherry Fu and Ms. Stella Dong from the Marketing Team jointly received this award on behalf of the School. The nominated institutions are voted via Weibo, blogs and other online platforms, using criteria such as size of the class, student profiles, faculty, and increment of salaries after graduation.

The University of Manchester China Centre Inauguration Ceremony
On 25th September 2016, Manchester Business School China Centre (MBS China Centre) was officially the first MBS Wordwide Centre to be re-opened as The University of Manchester China Centre (UoM China Centre). The Centre was honoured to have ambassadors from the University to attend the inauguration ceremony, including Professor Dame Nancy Rothwell, President and Vice-Chancellor of the University, Professor Fiona Divine, Head of Alliance Manchester Business School, Professor Elaine Ferneley, Global and MBA Director, Ms. Claire Kilner Head of Alumni Relations, Donor Comms & Engagement and Joanne Keown Head of Events, Projects and Philanthropic Board Management.

The Official Establishment of the University of Manchester Alumni Association Shanghai
On 25th Sept. China Centre became the first among all MBS Wordwide centres to be re-named and launched as The University of Manchester China Centre (UoM China Centre) by President & Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dame Nancy Rothwell. The event also marked another milestone – the establishment of The University of Manchester Alumni Association Shanghai (UoM Alumni Association Shanghai). Distinguished guests and over 160 alumni witnessed this special moment. Prof. Dame Nancy Rothwell spoke highly of the alumni in China while highlighting the importance of alumni relationship and development.

On 3 November, 11 winners of the British Business Awards (BBA) 2016 were announced at the InterContinental Shanghai Pudong. Hosted by the British Chamber of Commerce Shanghai, the BBA 2016 consists of eight award categories to recognise excellence in innovation, enterprise and endeavour. Ms. Sherry Fu was invited to announce winners of Chinese Investor of the Year Award.

Renmin - Manchester Global MBA Introductory Session
The first intake of Renmin - Manchester Global MBA is to start in July 2017. On 30th Nov, China Centre Director Ms Sherry Fu and Associate MBA Director met a group of prospective students in Beijing. During the Session, candidates also had the opportunity to speak to Professor Yu Zhou from Renmin Business School and experience the programme in advance.

Online Webinar on Marketing
On 10th Nov, Associate MBA Director Dr. Jiyao Xun offered an interactive session on online Marketing, as "11/11" the e-commerce "shopping festival" approached. On this occasion, fellow shoppers were in the spirit making either small or larger purchases, be it clothing or a holiday getaway. Marketing palyed a signifcant role in this craze. The University of Manchester China Centre offered a great opportunity for an interactive Marketing session delivered. During the event, alumni and students as well as prospective students were able to access the session live via Webinar. A large audience enjoyed this session!

On 26th and 27th September respectively a marketing session was delivered by Prof. Elaine Ferneley in Shanghai and Beijing. Both groups of audience enjoyed a talk on the ever so popuar social marketing topic. Elaine shared her expertise in a condensed one-hour session and interacted with the group on matters of using online marketing tools.

On the afternoon of 10th Dec. (Saturday) 2016, Allen Mao is our Global MBA alumnus as well as the founder of China Centre Continue Study Club. On the evening of 1st December, Charles Gao, Director of Signium Greater China, an experienced recruitment expert as well as our alumnus, shared with us this interesting topic. As with the specific topic, this event is only for those alumni with over 15 years of working experiences and who are interested in understanding and brainstorming on the topic. The evening event of a working day was attended by over 20 alumni, which showed a big interest among our alumni.

30th Oct., UoM China Centre held ‘First UoM China Women in Leadership Forum’, the first big event in Beijing since its rename and inauguration ceremony back in end of September. The forum will be held in series in the future, targeting on various topics surrounding women in leadership. The first event focused on women’s entrepreneurship, and was held in the context of rising women leadership and entrepreneurship nowadays.

29th Oct. was Halloween Day. UoM China Centre hosted a Beijing Alumni Gathering. We have a large number of Beijing based alumni that the Centre has been continuously taking good care of. The Gathering was held to celebrate both the Halloween Day and more importantly the inauguration of the UoM China Centre. The inauguration ceremony had been held end of September in Shanghai during the China visit by President and Vice Chancellor Prof. Dame Nancy Rothwell.

In Conversation with Stuart Hyde at China Centre
16th Oct., Professor Stuart Hyde visited the UoM China Centre. A special opportunity for conversation between our alumni and the Professor was arranged. During the sit-down talk, our alumni raised various questions, ranging from his expertise, the different studying methodology between China and the UK, to the school development in general. Before the talk, Professor Hyde also joined some study groups during their workshop, introducing about the school’s development and understanding their study experiences.

Dr. Phil Galvin visited China Centre and met with alumni
Consultancy is at the heart of the full time MBA in Alliance Manchester Business School. On 9th Oct, Dr Phil Galvin, Associate Director MBA Consultancy, visited the China Centre and gave our alumni a speech to showcase how the Consultancy provided by Manchester MBAs during the last four months of the Full time 18 month MBA programme can assist companies in real life. MBA Consultancy is a very important part of and throughout the MBA study in AMBS. It fully shows how original thinking is applied.

Breakfast Networking Session
On 29 Sep. early morning, China Centre held a Breakfast Networking Session. It was held in the context of three workshops running in parallel. Every workshop was held continuously for three days, and the breakfast session was held on the first day. Though it was quite early in the morning and started from 7:30am, there were still quite some alumni registered and turned out.

MBS Alumni Autumn Networking Reception
The Alumni Autumn Reception was held on 06 Sep. at the China Centre. Students from global centres also joined in over their workshops for - Doing Business in China, and Investment and Portfolio Management. Over 30 alumni participated in the reception. This was a good mixture of MBA alumni with different cultures and backgrounds. This is also the first time that we were able to engage full time MBA students to participate in alumni activities at China Centre and with our Global MBA alumni.

Leadership Forum - Session 4
On Friday evening of 02 September 2016, China Centre was delighted to have Simon Zhou again, one of our outstanding alumni, to facilitate the whole leadership journey. We were also honored to have invited Mr. Peter Lee, Managing Director of Ab Ovo China, to share with us his experiences on leadership. Peter Lee was also the Vice Chairman of Transport Group of European Union Chamber of Commerce China from 2001 to 2005, and the Chairman of Pricing Index Group of Shanghai Shipping Exchange during 2002-2004. This time, the leadership was focusing on ‘Empowerment’, which is the competency on ‘leading manager’.
