Director's Message
|
As the winter season wraps us in its serene embrace, I am delighted to extend my heartfelt greetings to you and reflect on the China Centre's extraordinary journey.
This August, the university welcomed our new President and Vice-Chancellor, Professor Duncan Ivison, who is a strong advocate for the power of diverse perspectives and global collaboration. We look forward to extending him a warm reception in China next spring.
Recent months was the continuation of our bicentenary celebrations through a series of memorable events. The University of Manchester Bicentenary Exhibition in Shanghai welcomed over 1,000 alumni all around China, and we received more than 100 heartfelt messages, celebrating their enduring connection to the university. At the opening ceremony, Professor Duncan Ivison delivered an inspiring video address, while Associate Vice-President Stephen Flint attended in person, underscoring our university’s global impact and enduring partnership with China. The exhibition garnered extensive media coverage from over 40 Chinese and international outlets, reaching an audience of more than 2 million.
During his visit to Shanghai, Professor Flint, accompanied by Richard Cotton, Director of International Development, and Kenneth McPhail, Head of AMBS, engaged with local universities, government bodies, and the China Centre to strengthen partnerships and reaffirm the university’s commitment to global collaboration through the China initiative.
Our dedication to fostering innovation and excellence was also evident this year. The China Centre proudly sponsored the Innovation Award at the 2024 British Business Awards, showcasing our continuous support for creativity and innovation of the British business.
In 2025, we will join the celebration of the 60th anniversary of AMBS—a milestone recognising six decades of nurturing global business leaders. As we look ahead, we remain committed to fostering academic and cultural connections and expanding the university’s impact. Thank you for your continued support. We look forward to achieving greater success together.
Wishing you a joyous holiday season and a prosperous New Year!
Warm regards,
Sherry Fu
