As we embrace the warmth and vibrancy of the summer season, I am delighted to extend my heartfelt greetings to you and share the remarkable journey and accomplishments of the China Centre.
This year holds special significance for us as we celebrate the bicentenary of the University of Manchester. It is a momentous occasion that marks our university's two centuries of academic excellence, innovation, and global impact. To commemorate this milestone, we joined the university's worldwide "light up" campaign on January 17, illuminating a landmark building in Shanghai showcasing the #UoM200 flashes of light across the city skyline. Hundreds of alumni came to the Bund on the day, sharing the exciting moments via social media and over 113,000 people watched Shanghai light up video via WeChat.
To advance innovation and ethical technology dialogue, in May, the China Centre successfully co-hosted the second "Artificial Intelligence Forum," themed "AI For Good." The forum brought together leading experts and industry pioneers to explore AI's potential for social impact and fostered meaningful discussions on responsible AI development.
Our commitment to providing exceptional educational opportunities and fostering lifelong learning was acknowledged at the 2024 China Schools Awards Gala, where China Centre received the Lifelong Learning Provider Award. This prestigious recognition reflects our dedication to enhancing our programmes and supporting student success.
As we continue to celebrate the University's Bicentenary in 2024, there are still a series of celebrations and activities that lie ahead. Thank you for your continued support and dedication to the University of Manchester China Centre. Looking forward to the exciting opportunities ahead, I am confident that our strong partnership with our community will continue to thrive and flourish.
Warm regards,
Sherry Fu
