As 2019 draws to a close, we're celebrating some of our highlights from the past twelve months.

This year China Centre has been awarded “Most Valued Brand of Business Education in China” by Tencent and Global MBA as ‘Most influential MBA Programme’ by The Best Education of China Award.

We are proud to bring more Master Courses from Manchester to China, offering more diversified opportunities for working professionals in China – MSc Financial Management and MSc International Fashion Marketing to boost their career progression with Manchester education.
While saying goodbye to 2019, we are truly looking forward to 2020 and feel certain that the new year will only be more exciting with challenges and great opportunities waiting for us.

China Centre won The Most Valued Brand of Business Education of the Year
 

On 12th November 2019, at the 7th Tencent Business School Development Forum in Beijing, The University of Manchester (UoM) China Centre was awarded “The Most Valued Brand of Business Education” in recognition of the contribution the Centre has made on behalf of the University over the past 11 years in China. Ms. Sherry Fu, Founding Director of The University of Manchester China Centre has been recognized with award “China Business Education Leader of the Year 2019”.


MSc in Financial Management (Online/Blended Learning) launched in Shanghai
 

On 4th December 2019, Professor Fiona Devine, Head of Alliance Manchester Business School, announced the launch of the new part-time Master course (online / blended learning), MSc Financial Management, in the presence of Manchester Global MBA alumni in Shanghai. The mission of the new course is to equip young professionals with a deep understanding of the tasks finance professionals undertake, and the skills required for a successful career in finance.


China Centre Won The Best Education of China Award
 

On 12th December, The Best Education of China 2019 Award Ceremony was held in Beijing Diaoyutai State Guesthouse. After nearly three months of online voting and expert review by netizens, the University of Manchester China Centre won the "2019 Influential MBA Programme" award for its well-known Manchester Global MBA programme, and Ms. Sherry Fu, University of Manchester China Centre Director won "2019 Education Industry Influential Role Model" award, which has become the only overseas award-winning institution.


UoM DBA Alumni Talk in Suzhou - Negotiation Skills: Ultimatum Game
 

On 23rd November, Global MBA alumnus, DBA candidate from AMBS, Mr. Tiger Qiao delivered an inspiring session in Negotiation Skills in Suzhou. During the event, Tiger Qiao combined the essence of the profound negotiation theory with the practical experience from China's local market with focus on ultimatum game.


Global MBA Graduation Party Hosted in Shanghai
 

On 4th December evening, Professor Fiona Devine, Head of Alliance Manchester Business School hosted the China Centre Graduation Party 2019 in Modern Art Museum Shanghai, after her visit to the University of Manchester China Centre in the afternoon. Centre Director Ms Sherry Fu, AMBS Professor Arif Khurshed, Associate MBA Director Dr Jiyao Xun also presented in the event, together with around 50 recent graduates (class of 2019 and 2018) celebrating their hard work during two years of MBA studies.


The 3rd Social Responsibility Panel Organised in Beijing
 

On 12th December, 2019, China Centre Beijing Alumni Christmas Gathering and Year-End Social Responsibility Panel took place in central Beijing. Mr. Richard Cotton, Director of Student Recruitment and Outreach and Ms. Sherry Fu, University of Manchester China Centre Director welcomed alumni and shared University and Centre news, followed by keynote speech by alumnus Daming Liu who is the first Chinese to study abroad on the wheelchair as an undergraduate and earned bachelor's degree in Psychology and the title of "International Honorary Alumni of the Year" from the University of Manchester. Ms Sherry Fu then moderated the Year-End Social Responsibility Panel joined by Mr. Joseph Du and Ms. Mavis Meng who shared their experience and thoughts with charity, philanthropy and NGOs. This happy occasion ended with exiting secret santa session where alumni exchanged their best wishes through carefully picked presents for their fellow mates.


Welcome, New Students! Inspirational Messages January 2020 Intake Global MBA students
 

The University of Manchester China Centre is welcoming Manchester Global MBA January Intake new students from different industries and academic backgrounds. These professionals are going to start their challenging and transformational MBA study journey with China Centre. Not only thinking of what to prepare for the MBA study journey, these working professionals are also ready to reflect their practical management experiences and career development plans with the programme. The new students are sharing their expectations for the coming new journey.


Design Thinking by Continue Study Club: Framework and Applications
 

On 14th November, Mr Allen Mao, an active AMBS Global MBA alumnus delivered a talk on the topic of Design Thinking: Framework and Applications, attracting around 20 alumni in attendance. Ms Sherry Fu, Director of the University of Manchester China Centre opened the event and encouraged alumni to enjoy the benefits of being part of the global alumni community and continue learning and contributing like Allen who has founded the alumni continue study club and making it more active and expanding than ever.


Company Visit to AstraZeneca Innovation Centre
 

On 15th November, University of China Centre Director Ms. Sherry Fu led an alumni delegation to visit AstraZeneca in Wuxi. Global MBA Accelerated Program alumnus Mr. Vincent Xu, Associate BRM director of Digital & Commercial Innovation Department guided the 2-hour exclusive tour of AstraZeneca China on site, followed by the speech from China Centre Director Ms. Sherry Fu.


Centre Hosted Alumni Social Responsibility Month in December
 

This year at the University of Manchester China Centre, we made December this festive season a memorable and meaningful one by marking it our first Alumni Social Responsibility Month by hosting three knowledge sharing and the third annual Social Responsibility Panel and spreading our purple love across Shanghai and Beijing.


In the morning of 1st Dec., we welcomed the first sharing session of Alumni Social Responsibility Month: Legal Knowledge Sharing on Prevention of the legal risk for our disability - Guardianship by Conduct. During this sharing session on provisions of adult Guardianship by Conduct, invited by Ms Fiona Xu more than 60 alumni learned from Mr Chenyang Li the first notary in mainland China to handle the notarization of Guardianship by Conduct and dealt with the largest number of cases cleared their concern on issues such as means to arrange our medical treatment and property management in advance when one is unable to make decisions independently due to illness or accidents and persons to approach as guardian when one lose consciousness.

In the afternoon of 1st Dec., invited by alumna Ms Yihan Tan, Huawei mobile photography workshop took place at the University of Manchester China Centre where alumni had the opportunity to get hands-on tips for taking great photos with camera phone and start capturing the best moments in life from professional photographer Mr Zhenzhong Xing. Alumni learnt about practical techniques and mobile functions. By experimenting newly learnt tricks on and with each other, theory was quickly put into practice.

On 17th Dec., Alumni Social Responsibility Month welcomed its last session: Sharing on Hypnosis & Aromatherapy where two GMBA alumna Ms Candice Zhang and Ms Aileen Wei invited our attending alumni to embark on a spiritual journey with themselves through hypnosis experience and aromatherapy workshop. Using coaching techniques, Candice helped audience to release stress to have their attention focused so that hypnotic hints (positive psychological hints) were more likely to be accepted from both physical and mental side. As they always say "All roads lead to Rome", the other speaker Aileen presented means to activate positive emotions with aromatherapy where  scents with various application methods can lead vitality, joy, optimism and calmness in our daily life. Alumni went home with custom essential oils and make lotions, home spray for relaxation and better sleep after a full-day of intense work.

On 13th November, UoM China Centre Director, Ms. Sherry Fu was invited by Tencent to introduce the education opportunities offered by The University of Manchester all over the world, which allow working professionals in China to enjoy a Manchester education without leaving their job.


Alliance Manchester Business School Masterclass in Financial Management
 

On 9th January 2020, The University of Manchester China Centre will invite Dr Nick Collett, Senior Lecturer in Financial Management  from Allinace Manchester Business School to deliver a Master Class in Shanghai. The keynote presentation will focus on Financial Management, which Dr Nick Collett teaches on the Manchester Global MBA Programme. It is is an ideal opportunity to experience the MBA in action.
