Manchester-Tongji New Students Gathering

On Saturday, 25th April 2015, the new intake Manchester-Tongji Dual Degree MBA Programme firstly gathered together at MBS China Centre. Mr. Nigel Banister, Chief Global Officer, together with Professor Elaine Ferneley, Global and MBA Director, Ms. Sherry Fu, MBS China Centre Director and Mr. Jiyao Xun, Associate MBA Director attended the event and kickoff the very first event for the new students which remark the beginning of a life-changing journey.
First of all, Ms. Sherry Fu delivered a speech to welcome the newly enrolled students. Followed, Mr. Nigel Banister expressed his high expectations to the students and encouraged students to think in original way and apply what they learned into business issues. Prof. Elaine Ferneley, Global MBA Director introduced the objective and requirements of MBA learning, as well as “Manchester Method”, which focuses on group work, practice-based learning and reflection. The Manchester MBA courses teach students to immediately apply their learning to solve live practical problems.
Global Perspective, Global Resource
Commenting on the course, Prof. Ferneley said “Our programme emphasises on global perspective. Apart from Manchester UK, we have 6 international centres around the world including Shanghai, Hongkong, Singapore, Dubai, Miami and Sao Paulo. The dual degree MBA students can choose MBS electives at Hongkong, Singapore, UK or other international centres. So the programme is very international in terms of study experience.”
In the end, MBS China Centre team expressed their congratulations to the students and encouraged them to adhere to the mottos from the two universities “Comradeship” “Original Thinking Applied”. Through this interactive communication, the students felt confident and showed their enthusiasm and high expectation for the upcoming MBA journey.
The strategic partnership between MBS and Shanghai Tongji University started from 2009 and the dual degree part-time MBA programme was launched same year. This programme combines leading English teaching approaches with Chinese characteristic, relying on abundant resources from two parties to provide successful management experience and knowledge to students. It aims to cultivate high management level talents with global perspectives and business knowledge for the future.
