On 17th April 2021, hosted by The University of Manchester China Centre, the inauguration ceremony of Magnificent Culture (Mculture): The University of Manchester China Centre Arts & Culture Study Programme was successfully held in Shanghai.

"Chinese culture is so broad and profound, and we are living in such a great era. With the accelerated globalization & the development of the Belt and Road Initiatives, our outstanding management talents must equip with both cross-culture communicating abilities and a broad vision together with an in-depth understanding of traditional culture", said Ms. Sherry Fu, Director of the China Centre.

On the same day, Ms. Sherry Fu also awarded Ms. Shiyi Li, the famous inheritor of the intangible culture heritage Shanghai Style paper-cut as Culture Mentor for UoM China Centre students and alumni.

The study programme spotlights on Chinese intangible culture heritage, aims at “giving the community and individuals culture nourishment”. With the theme of The Art of Ming-style Furniture of Rosewood in the first session, students were fully involved in a series of immersive activities like keynote speech, curator-guided museum tour, masterpiece appreciation and manual experience. On this basis, a wild range of themes will be brought to future courses, including enamel jewelry, folk custom, paper-cutting heritage and art talk show.

Professor Jianfei Lu, the Executive Vice President of Shanghai Overseas Returned Scholars Association (SORSA), commented that this study programme embodies the willing shoulder of The University of Manchester to carry the responsibility and mission in cross-culture communication and innovation, just like what they have been doing for a long time.
