UoM China Centre Continuously Supports the ESG China Awards

On 27 October 2022, the British Chamber of Commerce Shanghai (BritCham Shanghai) held its first Gala Dinner & Awards Ceremony of the ESG China Awards 2022 at The St. Regis Shanghai Jingan.

The ESG China Awards is an awards programme recognising and promoting excellence from companies that have made a positive ESG impact in China. The Awards are open to both local and international businesses that operate in China.  During the evening, the 2022 Award winners in all 12 categories were announced and invited on stage to accept their trophies.

The University of Manchester China Centre is proud to support the awards by sponsoring the Employee Engagement ESG Campaign of the Year Award, we are glad to celebrate the many excellent businesses, of all sizes, organisations and individuals who are doing astonishing things in China.

During the Gala Dinner & Awards Ceremony, Managing Director of China Centre, The University of Manchester Ms Sherry Fu revealed and presented the winner of the Employee Engagement ESG Campaign of the Year: Reckitt China.

Fu addressed that The University of Manchester (UoM) is the top UK University internationally recognised on Impact (Times Higher Education Impact Rankings) and unique in British higher education in having social responsibility as one of three core strategic goals, sitting equally alongside its commitments to research, world-class teaching and learning. Established in 2008, as the first UK university to open a dedicated Executive Centre in Shanghai, UoM China Centre’s social responsibility activities capture a unique Manchester spirit, motivating communities for social and economic well-being and cultivating talents by supporting the portfolio of UoM’s Global MBA programmes and part-time industry-based Master courses in China. After 14 years of endeavour, China Centre is highly respected in the field of Sino-UK educational and cultural exchanges and cooperation.”

Speaking on the Employee Engagement ESG Campaign of the Year Award, Fu said:“ This award seeks to recognise successful campaigns where organisations have initiated employee engagement initiatives to help accelerate progress towards their goals by improving company culture and stimulate innovation, all by activating and enabling their workforce. Such successful campaigns in employee engagement are consistent with our social responsibility strategy and ESG blueprint. Congratulations to the winner Reckitt China, and I hope there will be more socially responsible organisations working towards sustainable development.”

In Sep. 2022, The University of Manchester China Centre was invited to be the academic supporter at the Sustainability and ESG Business Summit for the second time. Ms Sherry Fu delivered a keynote speech “Net Zero Energy Future: Global Challenges, Manchester Solutions” during the Summit. Fu said in her keynote:” as the top ten in the world for sustainable development, our research has a real-world impact. Our commitment to social responsibility drives us to improve lives across the planet. We have more than £80 million of ongoing energy projects, covering the entire energy journey – from generation and storage through to systems and use. With such scale and scope, there is a wide range of opportunities to work together with partners and collaborators across varied disciplines to help deliver a brighter and more sustainable world for future generations.”
