China Centre Supported British Business Awards 2020

The British Business Awards 2020 Awards ceremony and Gala Dinner was hosted in Shanghai on 29th October. The Awards recognizes and promotes excellence in innovation, enterprise and endeavour in the British and Chinese business communities. The University of Manchester China Centre was invited to present at the Gala Dinner as the most outstanding important partner regional ambassador Sino-UK relationship.

Her Majesty’s ambassador to China Caroline Wilson CMG said: ”I am honoured to be the patron of the British Business Awards in 2020. I would like to thank the British Chambers of Commerce in China and the sponsors of each of ten awards, as well as the partners and entrants for their work over the years to deliver such a vibrant British business ecosystem in China. Your exchanging of knowledge and expertise, and building of trade ties between the UK and China will be at the heart of the global Recovery. Tonight’s awards will be a chance to celebrate the achievements of the last two years and look ahead with optimism to 2021.”

The biennial awards have grown to become a prestigious feature of the business calendar, and consist of ten categories in 2020, out of which Leadership Award was sponsored by the University of Manchester China Centre. The leadership award seeks to acknowledge and celebrate exemplary leadership that has successfully led strategy for outstanding performance. A strong leader demonstrates a unique ability to guide and inspire others.

Centre Director Ms. Sherry Fu was invited to present the award to the category winner Ms. Penny Burgess, CEO of WE Red Bridge, a mid-size, independent communications agency with over 100 employees in Beijing and Shanghai.

The University of Manchester China Centre Director Ms. Sherry Fu delivered keynote speech at the ceremony and pointed out: “I am very honoured to present the Leadership Award to Ms. Penny Burgess, CEO of WE Red Bridge. In this time of uncertainty, we especially need a leader who can create chances and safety as well as demonstrating a unique ability to inspire others.”

Founded in 2008, The University of Manchester China Centre renamed from AMBS China Centre, has devoted herself to being a successful ambassador of the University of Manchester and making UoM alumni community visible and respected in China.

Through the education resources sharing, scientific research creation, and the win-win business development between two countries, China Centre has become the model in terms of education cooperation, cultural exchanges and talents cultivation.

Adhering to the ethos “No Barriers, no Boundaries”, with a global reputation for quality, and accessible learning, the University of Manchester China Centre is committed to cultivate talent with global exposure, through providing programmes including: Manchester Global Part-time MBA, Kelley-Manchester Global MBA, Tongji-Manchester Global MBA, MSc Financial Management, MSc International Fashion Marketing, MA Educational Leadership in practice and  etc.

The University of Manchester China Centre is welcoming a new site at L’Avenue in October 2020. The enlargement and upgrade of the China Centre show again the University’s great contribution to Sino-British education links. We’ll bring more transnational courses to China, transforming the Centre to be a leader of digital learning revolution, to extend the university’s academic and research strength to a much wider audience in China.

After 12 years of endeavor, China Centre has supported over 2,000 Global MBA students and witnessed their professional growth. The number of University of Manchester alumni in China has reached about 20,000 spread out in Beijing, Shanghai and major cities in China. China Centre has become a leader in the field of international business education in China region and will continue to be a world-class provider of international education.
