Alumni Company Visit - UoM China Centre visits Halma Plc.

On April 12th, Ms. Sherry Fu, Founding Director of the University of Manchester (UoM) China Centre, visited BEA, a subsidiary of the UK's Halma Plc. (Halma), with alumni and staff. Halma is a global group committed to life safety technology and has been repeatedly named one of the "most respected companies in the UK". Its subsidiaries are in more than 45 countries around the world, with business operations in the UK, Europe, the US, and the Asia-Pacific region. BEA's Asia-Pacific headquarters is located in Beijing and is an international leader in the sensor field. During the visit, UoM China Centre and Halma employees held an internal conference with both online and offline participation, attracted nearly 100 Halma employees. Dr. Tom Yu, APAC Business Enablement Executive, APAC Board Member, Talent & Culture Director, gave a remote speech from the UK. Mr. Matt Lu, Halma's Asia-Pacific Communication Director, introduced the group's development overview and social responsibility. Ms. Sherry Fu introduced the development history and course projects of the University and the Centre. Michelle Liu, Asia HR & Admin Director of Halma’s BEA, warmly welcomed Ms. Sherry Fu and her team.

Dr. Tom Yu welcomed the UoM China Centre delegation through the online streaming. He warmly welcomed their visit and said that he is very much looking forward to a series of talent development cooperation with the University. He was also pleased to work with the UoM China Centre to cultivate Chinese talent and make contributions to sustainable development in the region.

Mr. Matt Lu, Halma's Asia-Pacific Communication Director, then introduced the group's unique operating model, operations in the Asia Pacific region, and its vision and practices around its purpose to create a safer, cleaner, and healthier future for everyone every day. He used BEA as an example to explain how Halma empowers its subsidiaries through talent and cultural development. This visit by UoM China Centre to BEA is an important step in sharing resources within the group network by bringing in excellent strategic partners and outstanding talent development mechanisms.

Ms. Sherry Fu introduced the development history of the University of Manchester and the China Centre and emphasized that the University was founded in 1824 and is about to celebrate its 200th birthday, while Halma also has a history of more than a century, both of which have a profound background. As a repeatedly awarded "most respected company" in the UK, Halma is also an important partner of the University of Manchester in both the UK and China. In the future, it is expected that the two sides will continue to strengthen school-enterprise cooperation and two-way empowerment.

After the meetings, Ms. Michelle Liu introduced the company's business layout, the functional settings of various departments, the patents and products obtained by the enterprise, and the rich practice of corporate culture construction to the UoM China Centre delegation.

In February 2022, the University of Manchester China Centre and UK-based Halma Plc. announced strategic partnership to develop management talents in China, marking the beginning of a new chapter in talent cultivation cooperation. Dr. Yu, an alumnus of the University of Manchester's DBA programme, is a witness and beneficiary of the high-quality business education offered by the University. This visit by the UoM China Centre to Halma Group not only demonstrates support for alumni companies but also showcases the Centre's efforts in expanding alumni networks, integrating local resources, and cultivating international talent. This partnership will strengthen the close ties between the UoM China Centre and alumni companies and provide customized solutions for the training of more business management talents.
