95 New Students Started Their Journey at MBS China Centre
On 16th July, Manchester Business School China Centre held Global MBA July 2013 Intake Induction& News Student Reception. Mr. Nigel Banister, Chief Global Officer of Manchester Business School, Elaine Ferneley, MBA and MPA Director of Manchester Business School, Sherry Fu, Director of MBS China Centre and faculty representative Mr.Pireko Richardson, Mr. Leigh Wharton and Mr.Frank Siegfried presented the ceremony.

MBS Global MBA July 2013 intake has 95 new students, including 32 from Tongji-UoM Joint MBA Programme. The average age is 33 with an average year of working experiences of 10. The working background covers pharmaceutical/Chemical, Manufacturing, Telecom, Finance, Marketing, Consulting, Energy, IT and Construction. There are around 12% international students.

During the induction, Mr. Nigel Banister, Chief Global Officer of Manchester Business School, Elaine Ferneley, MBA and MPA Director of Manchester Business School and Ms. Sherry Fu, Director of MBS China Centre gave speeches, welcoming students to join Manchester Business School and encouraging students to work hard with sense of mission, unleash potential to develop original thinking and apply it to solve real world business problems.  

Mr.Frank Siegfried introduced to students on course outline and overview, academic and student expectation. After a short break, an exciting, yet challenging tower building competition was launched. Students were divided into several groups and each group was required to build a tower with only tapes and newspapers within a short period of time. The group that builds the tallest stable tower is the winner.This competition mainly inspect students’ team work spirit and the ability to coordinate to achieve common goals with better result. After fierce competition, a 295 cm tower named “Touch of Sky” became the winning tower.

MBS China Centre Director Sherry Fu, together with Mr.Pireko Richardson ,Mr. Leigh WHARTON and Frank Siegfried presented the award to the winner team.

After the tower building competition, Livian, Head of MBS China Student Support and Tony, Head of IT introduced to students about student support and IT facility and services. Summer, MBS Global MBA July 2011 intake, shared with new students about her learning experiences and advices.

During the student reception, Mr. Nigel Banister made a speech to encourage students to make good use of the resources and support from MBS, Yiyi, MBS China External Relations (Career & Alumni) introduced MBS’s support on students’ career development and alumni activities.

Global MBA July 2013 student, Jing Li from UK Trade and Investment at the British Consulate-general in Shanghai, said that she can feel that MBS Global MBA is very tough, but with great reward, it not only allows student to grasp systematic business knowledge and skills, but also build a network through which students can exchange different point of view and ways of thinking on business. “I’m looking forward to attending the coming workshops” said Jing.
