Interdependence and Competitive Strategy Taster
|
On 18th September, Professor Xavier Duran Martinez, Associate MBA Director of Manchester Business School, delivered a very interactive workshop taster at MBS China Centre to around 20 part-time MBA prospective students.
After greeting the participants informally, Xavier began the session by introducing the definition of “Interdependence” and “Competitive Strategy” with specific cases in our daily life. He then encouraged everyone to think what would be the competitors of Starbucks, which initiated a heated conversation among the audience. The discussion continued as Xavier rendered a detailed explanation of “Action and Reaction” between Starbucks and McCafe.
Following the brief case study, Xavier also gave a short introduction of the University of Manchester and Manchester Business School, where a Blended Learning Program is implemented throughout the structure. Xavier emphasised the fact that in MBS, we do not just make students memorise and take exam, but more importantly, we make students critical thinkers and get them into the debate. Ultimately, we provide the context on which students will acquire the knowledge, the skills, as well as the mindset.
Participants expressed that they enjoyed the atmosphere of the taster very much, so that they stayed after the session to inquire more about application and admission procedures to our China Centre team.
