Director's Message

In this wonderful season, The University of Manchester has moved up two places to reach its highest ever position in this year’s QS World University Rankings, which made our students and alumni feel so proud! What made us more excited is that China Centre welcomed 124 outstanding working professionals officially started their Global MBA journey with us in July. And I believe this transformational learning experience will equip them with global perspectives to become future business leaders.

 

To work as a great ambassador for the University in China, it is a great honor for China Centre to welcome gracious presence of distinguished guest Mr. Alan Ferns, Associate Vice-President for External Relations and Reputation at the University of Manchester, who has brought the key message from Manchester to China about the core value of the University’s reputation. We also successfully hosted a brilliant networking event with Dr. Soriano, CEO of the Manchester City Football Club, who delivered keynote speech at China Centre.

Manchester Reaches Highest Ever Place in Latest World Rankings
 

The University of Manchester has moved up two places to reach its highest ever position in this year’s QS World University Rankings. Manchester is now listed as the world’s 27th best university, ranking 6th in the UK and 8th in Europe. This follows the University being ranked the fifth best UK institution for employability in the latest Times Higher Education (THE) Global University Employability Ranking.

Associate Vice-President Visited China Centre
 

Recently, Mr. Alan Ferns, Associate Vice-President for External Relations and Reputation at the University of Manchester paid his first visit in China. Mr. Alan Ferns, and Ms. Sherry Fu, UoM China Centre Director, were invited to attend a series of events hosted by Manchester United Football Club including reception, Open Training Session in Shanghai together with senior alumni in China. Mr. Alan Ferns also visited UoM China Centre and met with China Centre staff to understand global centre’s current responsibilities and strategies implemented to enhance the reputation of the University of Manchester as a whole.

China Centre Welcomed 124 Manchester GMBA New Students in July
 

From 9th July to 13th July, the induction for Manchester Global Part-time MBA July 2019 new students was successfully held at the University of Manchester China Centre. 124 outstanding working professionals officially entered the University of Manchester, including new students from Manchester Global MBA and Tongji-Manchester Global MBA programme. They are ready to embark on their career transformation in the global platform.

Man City F.C. CEO Delivered Keynote Speech at UoM China Centre
 

On 15th July 2019, Dr. Ferran Soriano, CEO of Manchester City Football Club visited the University of Manchester (UoM) China Centre and delivered a keynote speech focusing on the business strategy of Manchester City Club. Mr. Damian Willoughby, Manchester City F.C. Senior Vice President, and Mr. David Tang, Manchester City F.C. Regional Director joined the CEO’s visit.Ms. Sherry Fu, UoM China Centre Director, Mr. Ismail Erturk and Mr. David Roberts, Senior Lectures of Alliance Manchester Business School joined the event together with Manchester Global MBA current students.

Congratulations to Our Global MBA Graduates!
 

Graduation is a significant milestone in every student’s career, and it’s an opportunity for the University to formally recognise our graduates hard work and congratulate our graduates on their success. On Friday 19th July at 4pm, The graduation ceremony for Manchester Global MBA students were held in Whitworth Hall, Manchester.

On 14th and 15th June, 2019, in order to welcome the arrival of our Manchester Global MBA July 2019 new students, the University of Manchester China Center organized a networking event, which helps them to settle in the new big family before they embark on the new journey. On 21st June, the University of Manchester China Centre also held the exclusive welcoming event for our Tongji-Manchester Global MBA July 2019 intake. Admin officer from Tong Ji SEM also attend the welcome networking.

Manchester Day of Action with Purple Love in Shanghai
 

On 16th June, to support The University of Manchester’s sustainable development goal, China Centre and SORSA UoM Alumni Association continued the University’s legendary ‘Purple Wave’ in Shanghai. A charity running activity was held to support charity ‘Dialogue in the Dark’ (China) as part of UoM global alumni volunteering network. With the engagement of China alumni and Centre staff, the event successfully increased the public’s awareness of and tolerance for “otherness” and rose found for visually impaired people.

Manchester Global MBA Masterclass in Suzhou
 

On 4th July 2019, AMBS Professor David Roberts was invited by American Chamber to deliver a Masterclass in Suzhou. Over 40 managing executives from top MNCs in Suzhou joined the event. Dr. David deeply explored some of the most interesting research about the use and mis use of technology in and out of the workplace, with focusing on the ideas including ‘Shadow Work’, ‘Technological Sleepwalking’, and ‘Skunk Works and the Bubble Strategy’.
