It is a big moment of the year for Asian and Chinese around the world. The Spring Festival Holiday is just around the courner, with tickets booked to visit parents and family back home, you can almost smell the delicious banquet waiting for you.

In January, we welcomed Global MBA January 2015 intake in Hilton Hotel Shanghai. Meanwhile, the 2015 Annual Dinner was successfully hosted by China Centre and its Shanghai Alumni Committee, over 240 MBS students and guests attended this exciting event. The Annual Dinner marks the beginning of China Centre’s celebration of MBS 50th Anniversary. Almost all the important figures from MBS UK, Prof. Fiona Devine, Dean of MBS, Prof. Elaine Ferneley, Global MBA Director and Mr. Nigel Banister, Chief Global Officer, joined the annual dinner. During their stay in China, they also witnessed the signing ceremony of MBS Strategic MoU with China Renmin University Business School, the book release of "2014 Overseas Chinese Corporate Reputation Report". What a fruitful trip!

2015 MBS China Centre Annual Dinner
 

In the evening of 17th January, MBS China Centre launched the first event of its 50th Anniversary celebration series - the 2015 Alumni Annual Dinner in Shanghai.

Over 240 MBS students and alumni attended the dinner banquet at the Wine Gallery by ASC, an elegant and luxurious building in down town Shanghai. Prof. Fiona Devine, Dean of MBS, Prof. Elaine Ferneley, Global MBA Director, and Mr. Nigel Banister, Chief Global Officer, were delighted to be present at the high-profile banquet, co-organised by MBS China Centre and Shanghai Alumni Committee. Some partners of MBS China centre attended the dinner, including Dr. Ou Yang Qian, President of China Alumni Association of the University of Manchester, and Prof. Huo, Dean of School of Economics and Management of Tongji University.


MBS Signs Strategic MoU With China Renmin University Business School
 

On 16th January, a successful signing ceremony of strategic partnership was held in Beijing between Manchester Business School (MBS) and China Renmin University Business School (RBS). The signing of the MoU sees the beginning of a long-term strategic partnership between the two parties. The cooperation will include joint research projects, dual degree EMBA as well as international exchange programmes.

Prof. Fiona Devine, Dean of MBS, Prof. Elaine Ferneley, Global MBA Director, Mr. Nigel Banister, Chief Global Officer and Ms. Sherry Fu, MBS China Centre Director, represented MBS attended the signing ceremony. Prof. Jiye Mao, Acting Dean of RBS, Prof. Kangtao Ye, Vice president of RBS and Prof. Yu Zhou, MBA Director hosted MBS team in Beijing.


Global MBA January 2015 Intake Induction
 
On 15th January, the new Global MBA intake induction took place in Hilton Hotel Shanghai.

Mr. Nigel Banister, Chief Global Officer of MBS, together with Ms. Sherry Fu, MBS China Centre Director, welcomed all the students to embark on a life-changing journey. 

Dr. Jiyao Xun, newsly appointed Associate MBA Director, reinforced the MBS Mission, and expressed his dedication to provide more solid academic support to MBS Centres in Asia Pacific region.

Global MBA 2015 July Intake Recruitment Kick-off
 
On 14 January 2015, MBS China Centre hosted the first information session for Global MBA programme in 2015 and therefore signified the kick-off of the July intake recruitment.

Ms. Sherry Fu, China Centre Director, delightedly presented Mr. Nigel Banister, Chief Global Officer of MBS, who were there at the special occasion to interact with the potential candidates.

After Nigel’s introduction of MBS and the Global Part-time MBA Programme, Ms. Candice Zhang, one of MBS current students, volunteered to share her MBS experience with the potential candidates.

Open Lecture Given by Professor Ismail Ertürk
 
On 19th January, Professor Ismail Ertürk gave a talk to MBS China Centre EMBA and MBA students, as well as prospetive students on Central Banking at a Crossroads, a book he recently published.

This book is “an analysis of the dramatic changes central banking has undergone post-Lehman Brothers, offering insights into its new, central role in sustaining capitalism. It reflects on the innovations that central banks have introduced since the 2008 collapse of Lehman Brothers to improve their modes of intervention, regulation and resolution of financial markets and financial institutions.”

The event attracted over 50 guests especially students from finance industry.

Healthcare Club Event
 
On 5th December 2014, MBS Healthcare Club invited Mark Wagstaff and Ariel Wu to give talks on Effective Portfolio Management and New Product Planning respectively.

Mark is a China-Norway based Business Consultant. He has extensive and impressive experience in the pharmaceutical industry. And he is a MBS alumnus, 1997 full time MBA. Ariel has five years of experience of strategic marketing, new product planning, and ten years of sales and marketing experience on prescribed medicine in MNCs.

Education Industry Forum Presented by MBS, Chicago Booth and SHMBA
 
On 11th December 2014, the Education Industry Entrepreneur and Investment Forum "Where to find the investment opportunities" was hosted in MBS China Centre. This event was co-organised by SHMBA (Shanghai MBA Alumni Association), MBS China Centre and Chicago Business School Shanghai Alumni Association, and attracted around 70 attendees.

Topics discussed includes opportunities for investment in future education industry, online education’s impact on the offline education, and efficient operation etc.

China Centre Jointly Released "2014 Overseas Chinese Corporate Reputation Report"
 
On 17th January, MBS China Centre, Yama Ribbons and Bows, and Horizon Institute of Global Development jointly issued the 2014 Overseas Chinese Corporate Reputation Report at the Shanghai Yacht Club on the Bund in Shanghai. This report provides Direction to Internationalization of Chinese Corporations.

The reports points out that, in the past two decades, an increasing number of Chinese corporations have started “Going Out”, and the hard power of Chinese corporations has grown rapidly. However, the sustainable development of overseas Chinese corporations depends on them integrating into the local society, and winning the respect of the local community. To this end, the report proposes the “Chinese corporate soft power” concept and the “Going Out, Going In, Going Up” “Three-Step” new strategy.
